My Funny Valentine

“Happy Halloween Baby!” ...My father was really trying to wish me a Happy Valentine’s Day. I will never forget it. I saw the frustration on his face, somehow knowing that his words were not quite right. But was it that wrong?

Valentine’s Day creates a measure to tell another they are loved...but what if I don’t get a valentine? Am I somehow less loved or lovable? This worldly measure is the only monster in the story. We were created for love. The wounds and scars in our lives do not set our value. They are experiences and we should not mistake ourselves for our experiences. As a matter of fact they are scaffolding that takes us higher. Would you be able to share empathy on its greatest level if first you did not stand in the fire? You are amazing, you have survived and you have something to offer now. Thank you for the challenge. Let’s move on.

I like thinking we are not bound by time and space. Love is not, and I tend to love beyond reason, beyond good advice and beyond the hurt we cause each other. I think at the moment we stand in forgiveness we are standing in a super power of love. It is really the most natural place to exist. Think about it, if God made us in his image and God is love, then we are love. That is why it feels right to forgive. Holding on is a vicious weapon we most often end up turning on ourselves, but that diminishes your purpose, holds you back from greatness. In my effort to live maximally I plan to be a fool for love. We are kings and queens if we live to the calling.

I will rise up and speak my heart. I will be truthful and remain open to my lover, who is love itself.

Happy Valentines Day!
